In addition to instruction books, there are some really interesting books about the great musicians who have played the trumpet. It's been both fun and educational reading the various stories - here are some of my favorite books:

Finally an inside look at the amazing player who was taken from us way too soon.

Trumpet Blues: The Life of Harry James
by Peter J. Levinson
Nice book on the man with the perfect technique.

To Be, or Not . . . to Bop
by Dizzy Gillespie and Al Fraser
Informative and entertaining autobiography on one of the founders of bebop.

Groovin' High: The Life of Dizzy Gillespie
by Alyn Shipton
This biography of the trumpet great provides additional in-depth information that goes beyond Dizzy's autobiography.

Trumpet Kings: The Players Who Shaped the Sound of Jazz Trumpet
by Scott Yanow
Great source of information on many of the greatest jazz players.
